Last week I got just a taste of summer as we did an event with the Secret Service Band in Conshohocken! Every time I hear their music it takes my mind to the beach as I usually see them a few times a year when I visit the Jersey Shore. I’m especially excited for this summer as my brother and I have bought into a shore house with several of our friends, which will definitely be a new and fun experience!

For one, I’ve only ever had one roommate at the most. There was never a dull moment then, so I’m sure I wont get bored living with ten of my friends on the weekend at the beach. In addition, having a disability can make living with other people a little complicated when they aren’t familiar with your needs. Lucky for me, I don’t put a priority on privacy and my friends are all very accepting of my disability.

The other little kink that will make this summer interesting is that the space we rented is on the third floor. And there’s no elevator. This situation is somewhat of a microcosm of how I live my life: I decide what I want to do, I commit to it, and then I figure out how to do it. This method of decision-making works the majority of the time for me because when I want something bad enough I’ll figure out a way to get it. My friends in the house have already made a pact that none of them will carry me up the two flights of stairs during the first weekend, so words of advice to the girls in Sea Isle: skinny is not in this summer. For my sake, please start hitting the bench press. It’s going to be a summer full of disabling limits.
